With typical low calorie diets you will lose weight but if 20 lbs are lost, 10lbs comes from fat and 10lbs comes from water and your muscle mass. When you re-gain the weight you put the fat back on, not muscle. Your body is in worst shape after the diet then before the diet! The less muscle you have the less calories you burn per day.
